Skyward Speech Therapy LLC is a speech and language therapy provider owned and operated by May Derry, M.S., CCC-SLP. Skyward Speech serves pre-school and school age children with a range of speech, language, and communication needs in Merritt Island, Florida and the surrounding areas. Services are provided in home or via teletherapy based on clinical recommendation, and can be provided remotely throughout the state of Florida if deemed clinically appropriate.

Welcome! My name is May Derry, and I am the speech-language pathologist behind Skyward Speech Therapy LLC. I received my Bachelor's (2017) and Master's (2019) in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Florida State University, and completed my Clinical Fellowship in California. I am currently licensed to work in Florida and California, and have my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCCs) from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

I decided to become a speech pathologist after working with middle schoolers in a neighborhood-based program called the Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program. One main tenant of the program is to develop the "power of expression." I began to realize just how vital the ability to express one's ideas, thoughts, feelings, and perspective - and the capacity to understand others' - could be in the life of a young person. From then on, I wanted to learn how to help people participate as fully as possible in their individual, family, and community lives by strengthening this power of expression. 

My goal is to help children and their families feel empowered to contribute to and participate in their community, and grow themselves as individuals, through strengthening their speech, language, and communication skills. Too often individuals and groups are pre-judged by what they are or are not able to do in society. However, all individuals have the ability and desire to contribute in their own way to the world around them and to grow. Each person's capacity is as limitless as the sky! That is why I named my practice Skyward Speech Therapy.

I provide services in the natural environment (the home, daycare, the park, grocery store, etc. depending on clinical recommendation) rather than a clinical setting. I am eager to collaborate with any other team members that may be involved in the client's care (such as Occupational or Physical therapy, psychologists, etc., or other SLPs serving the client). Developing a unified plan across all the people interacting with and serving your family is a high priority in order to make the most out of therapy. I value clear communication and utilizing the tools and experience I have in conjunction with the client and family's values, goals, and strengths in order to progress.
